How valuable health is! The Gunz experience!

To everyone that is part of the Gunz show, welcome yet again to a new episode! I hope everyone enjoyed their holidays and are off to a good start! Before I go into today’s subject, I just wanted to take the time to update everyone on what’s going on in regards to music and writing.

I am still in the beginning process of the Bacon Salsa album and I must say it is quite envigorating! While the task is daunting, I can say I am working on 3 songs at this present time. If you haven’t gotten the chance to get Where My Voice Cannot Speak, please send $14.99 to RonnieAGonzalez@gmail.com and you’ll also receive bonus artwork, backstory in regards to the album itself and a copy of my debut book, Vol. 1!

I have also resumed writing The Ballad of DJ Brimmstone Firebutt and might I add, I have trouble speeding the process due to how difficult it does get to make one chapter funnier than the next — or at least more serious. I have alo begun to write The Angry Bater, whose backstory and plot will be supplemental to the Brimmstone story!

It is very rare of me to use my blog to speak about health, given that I am a musician and an author, not a dietician. However, as of late, upon realizing that I will be 30 on March 22nd, I find it crucial to start maintaining myself and even optimizing my health so that not only I live long but also age in good health.

Usually, when we look at dieting and working out, there’s always this numbers game going on. If you’re working out hard and you want to maintain your muscle, eat 1g of protein per pound of body weight and 1.5-2g if you want to gain muscle mass. All this protein, all this milk and a hell of a lot of meat and powder thrown in the mix and you just have a cluster of frustration!

Alas I realized something interesting — most of us aren’t athletes, bodybuilders or hardcore gym enthusiasts on a regular basis, which is why cramming so much excess protein can be harmful. Then I looked into the mirror and I looked at myself. Granted, I am about 128.6 Kg and not the terrible 175 Kg I used to be back in 2008 but I realized several things about my daily living —

1. I work out 3-4 days a week, hitting the weights on a moderate intensity along with walking 10 miles a week.

2. It takes a lot for me to drop weight yet absurdly easy to gain it just by simply eating one bad thing.

3. Most of my life, I’ve been all about the meat and dairy, caring little about vegetable and beans.

You can say at this point, I’m catching up with lost years of enjoying vegetables. By no means will I become a hardcore vegan or vegetarian but I have lately found myself going to plant-based dieting with beans as I am noticing a more healthy change. Fish and chicken are on a serious cut down in my life but a sure insurgence of black beans, bok choy, spinach (lots of it), strawberries, blueberries, apples and yams. As for sweets, while I did just eat but a rather modest slice of white fudge, candy has been grounded for a very long time and replaced by the glories of tea and oatmeal!

So while I go back to my humbling duties of musician, writer, artist, father and husband, do now know that I am also putting nutrition and fitness as a major factor of my life as well and hopefully, you’ve also got a mouthful reading this.

Adieu,

Capt. Ron Gunz
