My Guiding Ghost

The ghost that haunts my dreams.

She reminds me of loss procured

and agony afflicted

like ash seeking embers.

Your laugh still in the air

but your hugs and love cut off from this earth.

A fate unkind,

as though taunting me into despair.

At times would that I’d trade places

so you can embrace loving faces

but who’s to say you wouldn’t hurt more

while struggling for air once for sure.

I see your innocent aura in the eyes of a kin;

who is of my blood,

not afflicted by the world she’s in.

She gives hope of better days, —

where we can stare at the skies,

brought to peace by the sound of rain & wind.

May the gods be kinder to her

than they were to you.

Would that they remember you

and atone for their premature cruelty;

a redemption of theirs that I can accept for sure.

May your wings protect me from certain doom.

My house, for you, always saves room.

This is adieu as my eyes are like stone

and thank you for assuring that I’m not truly alone.
