Drafts Update during the end of Winter’s Winds

The Winds of Winter are near their end here in Tampa and the Dream of Spring may well be a reality. We had a lot of cold days and somehow we surprisingly were at freezing levels when counting wind chill (even this morning). As per Florida weather, unlike other regions in the US, it doesn’t stay at a 5-10 degree range. It swings a full 20 to sometimes 30 degree range. That’s the kind of shit that’ll get someone sick! Thankfully, I wasn’t one of them.

I know I’ve definitely lacked a bit of consistency but one thing I’ve succeeded in as of late is my caffeine consumption. Lately, I realized I had been rattling my nervous system with too much caffeine. One mug of Deathwish? Fine but when I realized there were days where I had 2-3 and wondering why my stomach been acting funny, I definitely had to do a small reset. We’re locked in and all is well.

February is almost over and while I thought this was gonna be the month that I thought I wouldn’t write anything for Drafts, I was wrong. Turns out I wrote the longest chapter for it since November. December was the shortest entry while January was relatively modest. I’ve appreciated how this month’s chapter shaped up to be where the more fantastical elements begin to show themselves. I think it’s safe to say that the story is definitely shaping up significantly different than the setting the Emmanuel Lucifer saga has in motion through Fire series. Will there be a few things that will feel déjà vu? Maybe but the time setting and structure will be different and when creating a biome like Old York, it makes room for things we don’t necessarily see today in our world but would interestingly be nice to see regardless.

The Emmanuel Lucifer stories began with a hybrid of urban fiction mixed with elements right out of some manga and superhero comics and currently evolved into an urban dark fantasy. The journey that is shaping up for Ronoir and those he meets along the way is urban fantasy with sprinkles of things we’d especially out of tales of ancient myths.

A large part of my approach is freehand writing. Start somewhere and keep it going. It’s like the open world of writing for me — see where your mind and your hands take you. Let them create and do the thing and then worry about the editing to publish later.
