Father’s Day Weekend, FireFrei and Youtube update!

It was a wild Father’s Day weekend so far. Who knew I’d witness the start of World War 3? Also, there were No Kings protests while I was just trying to enjoy my weekend?! My kid’s mom outdid herself by gifting me the Deluxe Volume 1 of Hellsing. As if that wasn’t enough, she gave me Volume 1 of Fist of the North Star. She also gave me Volume 1 of Vinland Saga. The former warrants Deluxe. The latter two are so well-arranged and expansive, they don’t need them. Vinland Saga deluxes do exist, though. They are perfect examples of how a deluxe edition is about as necessary as a chocolate teapot! Now I’m facing a catastrophic dilemma. How do I expand my bookshelf to accommodate not only books but also more shelves?

I’ve finished the artwork for Chapter 1 of FireFrei and started on Chapter 2. While Chapter 1 needed a lot of detail, Chapter 2 is simpler. I remind myself of two things. I’m not as skilled as Tetsuo Hara or Miura. However, it’s good to aim high. Also, I do better when I keep things simple. I often think about the art style of Persona 5 Royal and styles from Johnny the Homicidal Maniac. Another source of inspiration is Eastman & Laird’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Not all art requires the magnificence of DaVinci or the detail of Alex Ross. If we even look back to work from Akira Toriyama, simple yet memorable. Even Sonic the Hedgehog (IDW or Archie era) fits the concept of less is more.

Summer has officially arrived and as a Floridian citizen that’s a creative, this means several things. Firstly, Hurricane season; any downpours means people will panic shop as though a hurricane is coming. Secondly, humidity will be annoying. Third, keeping the reality of my daughter going to middle school existent in my mind is boggling. Lastly, I will focus on doing art for FireFrei before finishing writing the book. This approach will help me pace myself when I continue writing the rest of it. I recall mentioning in an earlier blog entry. I said that I’d then aim to write monthly chapters. These chapters could be long or short, upon catching up. Granted, sometimes in writing a chapter, the story in them may have a life of their own. In forcing myself to monthly writing upon catching up, it helps me avoid burnout.

Making content on Youtube can be overwhelming in recent months. I look back at how I started. It was usually one game series at a time. Over time, my enthusiasm got ahead of me and I ended up trying to do too many playthroughs at once. For this reason, I’ve slowed it down to weekly videos of my Deflect Counter crusade in Elden Ring. I’m aware I have to finish Mortal Kombat 1, Baldur’s Gate 3, Bleach: Rebirth of Souls and the Devil May Cry collection. See how I piled too much on myself? Exactly. I need to get back to one series at a time. Some creators are great with variety streaming/gaming. I am not one of those folks!

Enjoy your Father’s Day weekend, everyone. Down below is the link to my ongoing weekly series of the Elden Ring Deflect Counter Crusade. It includes flaws and all! Feel free to Subscribe in the process!
