It’s been months since I pretty much stopped watching pro wrestling, WWE in particular. Their doubling down on Gen AI for new music themes for wrestlers and using AI to create their storylines for TV and PPV events is a turnoff and every time I tried to tune in, it showed. If your scripts for the events are gonna be bad, at least let it be because you put effort. Usually when effort by humans is put in, usually it’s not all a mess and there ends up having some good things here and there. Granted, the producers of the matches themselves are still human and often former wrestlers themselves— so at least that dynamic in the production is still very human. It further shows why I, as an artist and author, cannot bring myself to use Gen AI when creating. I’ve tested things once in a blue but like other true creatives, it isn’t satisfying. It doesn’t fulfill my soul at all.
Drafts is on its second to last chapter from this monthly writing experiment. As I’m writing further, more of a backstory is showing up for a new character connected to one of our initially introduced ones. The wonder of Old York is still something I want to flesh out but I feel that by the time this novel is ready, it can help set up for the next story arc regarding Emmanuel Lucifer.
I’ll likely continue the remaining editing sessions for FireFrei this week before I go all in on the art aspect of it. Once that’s done, then I’ll go ahead and submit to Lulu for a proof copy, see how it looks before I announce a public release date. I think the hurdles and learning experiences of publishing FireButt definitely helped shape my approach with writing overall and thus a better sense of confidence regarding how I’ll approach publishing moving forward. There’s also the factor that, instead of being in a slump due to therapy, pandemic and heartbreak, I’m in a position where I’m giving streaming a break as a means to put my creative energy to use again.
As some of you reading may notice, I make sure to not give away spoilers to my writing material — not even a preview chapter. With this era of AI and people trying to steal your writing material, I’d say I’m very protective of what I create. If I share, it’ll be because the material is already out and I’m just giving you guys teasers of what’s already available. I’m also doing my best to work with page count vs. physical copy sale, given that I can only make the physical copy price to a limit without losing any ounce of profit whereas e-books have more flexibility. The very reason I still offer physical copy is because while e-books are convenient, some of us still love having a book physically in our hands to read and hold — whether it be in the subway, a long bus ride, waiting for food in the oven to cook, letting coffee take its time to brew or when trying to wind down from a long day of night at work. Personally, I prefer a physical copy of literature because I like to take my time to absorb the material. E-books are great for convenience but oftentimes, I find myself speed reading and not retaining what I read as proficiently.
