Bang Bang! FireFrei Update!

I’m enjoying all the extra sleep I’ve gotten since my kid’s school semester ended. Normally, I’m clocking in around 5-6 hours a day but on the last 4-5 days, I’ve gone between 7 minimum to one day where I slept a whole 15 hours! I guess the school year not only put work on my kid but on me as well! My body doesn’t feel as beat down, either. As a result, my brain has been able to switch back on for writing.

This brings us to the latest update on FireFrei — chapter 7 is getting longer. Never mind all the extra character development for a particular character that has emerged — it gets violent as well. I would argue that there are more action-based moments here than what I put into FireButt. I’d say it’s due to how at times, the previous entry had the action spread too far out whereas in this entry, almost every chapter has something going on.

One thing I also noticed in reviewing my manuscript is that now each chapter seems progressively longer. Given that I’m writing everything on a 100 sheet composition notebook, chapter cover art included, I’ve had moments where I feel like the chapter is done but then, upon revisiting, I realize there is more to piece together. One of the most important aspects of writing the chapters is ensuring that it starts and ends full circle with the name and theme of the chapter’s title. I also, in part, drew inspiration from JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders manga/anime and the Persona games for the title of each chapter. The only exception, thus far, has been chapter 7 as it strays but the WIP art for it gives way for the reader to understand which arcana it’s alluding to. Given the sheet count remaining in my notebook, the 8th chapter will be the novel’s conclusion.

I will say this — chapter 8 won’t be as long as 7 but when I get to it, it will help close this arc of Emmanuel Lucifer’s story. Whether it will lead to a 3rd story to write is something I haven’t decided but I know that Drafts is still being written monthly on my phone and once month 12 hits, it will be done and it’s on to doing cover art for each chapter.

I’d say 2026 has been the year where, even though I haven’t laid off the streams, I’ve definitely worked less on it and more into writing and watching new things to broaden my horizon from a creative standpoint.
